tallnbig68
My D100 is a basic digital imagery device. However I want to replace same with an equivalent point and shoot, and thebrand need not be Nikon! P&S cameras now have nearly the same megapixelfactor as the D100, are often smaller, and perhapstoo, more user accessible. My primary camera is a Nikon F100 and its backupis a Pentax Espio 105. Am thinking of disposing of the D100 and purchasing a digital equivalent to the Pentax Espio. The D100 and its accompanying 24-85 (non-digital)Auto-Nikkor lense would be trade on the new P&S. I am in Southern Ontario Canada Suggestions?
cabophoto
You will find that the picture quality of small-sensor cameras (as the P&S all are) is far worse than what your D100 can deliver, even if they have the same number of pixels (or even more). greglyon
Also, you'll find that the responsiveness of digital point-and-shoots leaves a LOT to be desired, especially since you're used to SLRs and DSLRs. That said I've loved several Canon ELPHs that I've owned (except for their shoddy response times). I'm due to upgrade soon but haven't made any sort of final decision. I've been intrigued by the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1, but it's a specialized point-and-shoot, and I have no first hand experience with it yet. hique
A P&S will never be a SLR, and neither a SLR will be a P&S...got it? The control you have in a SLR is what makes it a better choice for most of the subjects. Still, I thin the P&S has its role, being in ones pocket for unique opportunity shots. As others said, the quality of a P&S will only be as good as an SLR if it has similar sensor size, which is not the case.
