Shooting the UK streets

Greetings. I've been lurking here for a while, and absolutely loving the

continual stream of shots and discussions. It really is an eye opener after

trawling through gearhead/gear war forums.

I haven't noticed much stuff from the UK though, and only ever found a couple

of UK portfolio sites in comparison to the bucketloads of great stuff from the

US. I don't know if the psychology of it is different over here; or maybe it's

just that it hasn't really caught on. However, if anyone has any links I'd be

very glad to be proven wrong.

I have uploaded a very small handful of my own stuff (from Glasgow, Scotland)

in my portfolio.

I'm pretty new to it, but be as brutal as you like.

Cheers.

i have had a look at your portfolio and in my humble opinion there are a lot of really strong photos in there. i used to live in glasgow and didn't realise there was quite as much potential. have you been to kelvingrove since it reopened? i reckon there must be a good few opportunities in there.

I've just had a look at your street folder and there are some good shots there.

I've got a blog that has a few street shots (take look at the gallery section): random-image.com

Another place you may find some UK street shots is: london.photobloggers.org it's mainly London stuff, and you'll have to trawl through them a bit, but there are some good sites in there.

Keep up the good work, it's nice to see photos from the UK.

Hi Stuart

Have just taken a look at your portfolio so you've been noticed now! Not entirely convinced it's what most people would call 'street', but then again, labels are restricting and rules are made to be broken... Have you got any other stuff you can put up? I'd be interested to see more of it.

George Lupton: i used to live in glasgow and didn't realise there was quite as much potential.

Thanks for the comments George. I think that Glasgow has a great atmosphere for street as the architecture is becoming quite run down and even gothic as time progresses. On a rainy night it can be incredibly atmospheric. I find that the Glaswegians, however, are not quite as open minded as those in Edinburgh, and tend to be more suspicious of cameras.

I haven't tried the Kelvingrove yet, as I recently moved through to Edinburgh and haven't had the chance to get back to Glasgow as much as I'd like.

I love these collections, a permanent bookmark. Thank you!

Marcus RiccoboniI've got a blog that has a few street shots

You have an impressive collection building up there Marcus. Again, another bookmark. Thanks!

Brian (BDS) is too modest to refer you to any of his photographs, which are absolutely worth seeing.

And while I don't think of him exclusively (or even principally) as "street photograper," you should also have a look at Trevor Hare's photos, which range from the street to the church to the harbor to the pub and throughout the countryside. Very fine photos.

Monkey C., who more commonly posts photos on photo.net's Leica Forum, is an eclectic photographer if ever I've seen one. He's English, but not all of his posted photos were taken in the UK. Great fun.

I should add, D White, that I liked quite of few of your empty places photos. Fine compositions.

Hi, I live in Glasgow and you seem to have captured some great locations. Tell me the few near the bottom, are they taken at the Kelvingrove underground(the abandoned bit i keep hearing about but cant find)

Some great shots!

Michael S. on Brian (BDS) / Trevor Hare / Monkey C.

Michael, thanks for the links and the comments. I'm glad I started this thread now, because I'm finding a lot of shots of places that I can relate to, which is an inspiration. I now have plenty of bookmarks to allow me to skive from work in a more productive manner.

Craig Kelly : Tell me the few near the bottom, are they taken at the Kelvingrove underground(the abandoned bit i keep hearing about but cant find)

Hi Craig. Yep, the ones of the abandoned station and tunnel are from a line which runs through the park just outside Kelvinbridge underground station. There are in fact two tunnel portals in this area.. not hard to find if you keep an eye out for anything which might look 'railway'.

Mark Liddell : My London street shots at at liddellphoto.com

Mark, thanks for the link. I'm enjoying this one too.. it seems like street shots from over here have such a different atmosphere. I don't know whether it's the shooting style or just the different attitude of the people on the streets, but regardless, it's good to see things that I can relate to.
