galone_es
Tamron has released this Spring a new version of their AF 28-200 mm zoom lens for Pentax mount cameras. The specifications are shown here: http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/28200_di_a031.asp Has anybody used this new version of the lens ?Is there any better alternative for it ? (other than purchasing a couple of prime lenses) I intend to purchase this lens for the Pentax MZ-6 camera (also known as ZX-L)
steve graham
Why not save some cash and buy either the older Tamron or the Pentax 28-200 used? The new lens might be better, but I'd be surprised if the difference is all that significant.
stemked
The Pentax 28-200mm lens which was a Tamron made lens was rated by photodo as the worst optic ever to have a Pentax name stamped on it; it scored something like a 1.7 out of a possible 5.0. Intrestingly it scored a whole point below the same version of the lens made by Tamron! The first two versons of the 28-200 Tamron lenses are pretty bulky (my wife has the verson two, still with the 72mm filter) and the next version has a 62mm filter (my sister uses that lens on a Nikon camera) which is quite good for a lens of that type. If there is yet another version of the lens I suspect it is optically ok based on my sister's experience with her lens.
