s._c.
I looked at a wooden 8x10 tachihara from what I'm told and I was confused about the swing mechanism since it didn't look like the ones in pictures off the internet. It seems to be a pretty primative system with a couple of knobs on each side and you kinda just twist the whole standard along these rails. This doesn't necessarily look like it was made for the purpose, but possible to twist to get a very limited swing range out of it. It doesn't look any thing like the deardorff I had next to it. The front standard was not too rigid either. Well, if anyone has one like this, can you give me your opinions on its handling? It does have the usual movements: rear tilt (same twisting swing), front rise and fall and tilt. Thanks.
peter_mcdonough3
Hi, I have an older...appx. 10 years old...Tachihara and the rear movement swing is as you describe. One side stays in place while the other is moved with the appropriate knob. I have found it to be a very poorly made camera. Knobs fall off, set screws get lost, etc. I use a very small lens on mine and would not recommend a larger lens set in a *4 or *5 shutter.
maris_rusis
My double extension Tachihara 8x10 Model 810GF has the back swing achieved by the differential advance on the left and right focussing tracks. Yes, back swing is somewhat limited but the adjustment when locked is stable and reasonably rigid. Front swings are a straightforward centre pivot system. My triple extension Tachihara 8x10 Model 810HD has standard centre pivot swings front and back.
