greg_koni
I currently shoot a 1DM2 with a 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8 and a 85 f1.8. I would like to purchase a 77 mm circular polarizer for the 24-70 but I am overwhelmed by the choices. Can anyone recommend a brand and model that strikes a balance between price and performance. I almost bought the Super Hoya for $129 but balked when confronted with all the other choices. Thanks in advance.

walterh
For this nice equipment do yourself a favor an do not look for the money: B+W multicoated. Single coated will do fine except for difficult light conditions when you want the best from your sensor. If you frequently are in very humid environment get a K䳥mann, its sealed better. jcolwell
I recommend the B+W 77mm Kaesemann MRC Circular Polarizer, search for "77 MRC KSM CIRCULAR POL AUCM 45620".
walterh
The K䳥mann is supposed to be the Kaesemann James recommends :-)
arie lendra www.arielp.t
He he he... Recently i bought KENKO Circular Polarizer for my Tamron 19-35mm, the result seems same to me compared with Hoya CPL (i use one on my EFS kit)...but the build quality out perform the Hoya.. but KENKO CPL 77mm is far-far cheaper than Hoya (non HMC)....here in Indonesia only cost about USD 240...(the same price for Hoya CPL 58mm)
david_lau3
I recommend the Nikon (I know this is EOS forum) CPL II 77mm. It is multi-coated and in slim format but allows you to attach normal lens cap. Those push on lens caps coming with other slim CPL will tend to get loose quickly.
arie lendra www.arielp.t
Sorry ....24 USD for the KENKO CPL....(not 240)... .
yakim_peled1
You have excellent lenses and thus I wouldn't recommend anything but the best: B+W MRC. 130$ at Adorama and B&H. The Kaesemann is especially made for extreme climate conditions. It's 165$. If you don't shoot in such conditions, get the regular MRC. I have the 72mm version and it is indeed excellent. Happy shooting, Yakim.
kanellopoulos
I have ordered a 77mm polarizer from Singh-Ray ($160). <br> I think this brand is highly rerarded and I am surprised nobody <by> mentioned it in this thread. <br>Am I missing something? <br><br> What's more, my polarizer was ordered a month ago and has not yet<br> arrived :(
eric merrill
I stick with B+W MRC filters. I don't use a polarizer very often, so I waited 'til I found a used one in great shape. Ended up paying $50 or so instead or $130. Filters don't hold their "new value" at all.
rodger_newbold
Greg -As many have pointed out get a good one to avoid any color contamination (any color other than the grey). I have purchased many over my career and have had some sad experiences. The B+W seem to be very good and the Singh-Ray excellent. One other person noted that Singh-Ray had been on order for a long period. They are a small production house and quality is not compromised. Be patient. I have written an article of filter choices and polarizers in general. If it is helpful see them here. http://www.pictureline.com/newsletter/2004/april/filters.html and no. 2 can be seen here http://www.pictureline.com/newsletter/2004/may/polarizer.html . stephanie_costello
<p> I have a filter that i just got used, it says: 77 slim ksm c-pol mrc but the box says 77 mrc ksm circular-pol. Does this filter belong in this box, or is it the wrong filter?</p>
