paul_sharratt
Does anyone know the expected life (in terms of actuations/exposures) of the shutter in a D100? D200? Do the sensors have an expected lifetime?
eric friedemann
The D100 is no longer made. According to Nikon, "(t)he D200's double-bladed shutter unit is tested to well over 100,000 cycles ...": http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/micro_stories.pl?ACCT=141412&TICK=NIKON3&STORY=/www/story/11-01-2005/0004204736&EDATE=Nov+1,+2005
ShunCheung
For whatever it is worth, a friend of a friend owns a Canon 20D. Somehow this guy shoots like crazy and once in a weekend, he took 12,000 images, yes, twelve thousand. My friend does not care for this guys images, though, and I can see why. Anyway, the shutter in his 20D broke after some 80K+ images, and of course that was within the first year and the 20D was fixed under warranty by Canon. For 3 years I used my D100 along with film bodies. My D100's shutter still has not been fired as many times as this guy's 20D was in one weekend. As long as you use you D100 or D200 in a reasonable manner, I wouldn't worry about the shutter life.
