dannyv
I have a Nikon 100mm f/2.8 E and I like it a lot because it's a sharp and lightweight lense (weight being important on long hikes). I'm thinking about replacing mine with another one because the focussing ring has a very loose feeling which bothers me.Is this a general phenomenon with this lense being a cheap E-type lense or can they be found with a stiffer and preciser focussing ring? Thanks! Robert_Lai
Lubricants can dry out with time, giving an undampened feeling. Have your lens brought to a competent shop and have them regrease the helicoid.
astral
My all-black 100/2.8 E sounds wheezy due to dry helicoid but isn't sloppy - it'd cost me 25 GBP to have it re-greased. My 50/1.8 and 35/2.5 E Series feel just like regular Nikkors. I think that at current UK dealer prices (c. 50-60 GBP) I can afford to look for a nice chrome-ring 100/2.8 E with warranty and return option, AND fix the old one! loreneidahl
Like Robert and Alan said. Mine operates like my 105. However I also have a 105 that is very rough. Lubricants do dry and dirt does accumulate.
