tom_luongo1
Nikon calls them "defect pixels" not "hot pixels". Nikon tech said: "If you have defect pixels at shutter speeds faster than 1/4 second please send the camera to us so we can recalibrate the camera to map out these pixels." My camera has two that show up at normal hand holding shutter speeds. But they are infrequently obtrusive and the camera is still such a joy that I'll use a while more before sending it back for repair. Too bad the firmware can't do it without a visit to the factory. andrew robertson
When you shoot RAW they are generally remapped automatically.
lex_jenkins
I haven't seen any evidence that defect or defective pixels are automatically remapped or otherwise repaired or minimized when shooting NEFs with my D2H. The bad pixels remain in the same location with NEFs or JPEGs (or TIFF captures). This includes the most recent version of Nikon Capture 4.4 that I could download. These disappear only when NEFs are opened in a version of RawShooter that automatically corrects for such small defects. And this is only when the option to correct for such small problems is turned on. The problem with RawShooter is that it tends to perceive legitimately colored pinpoints of light (such as colored sequins or holiday lights) as "flaws" such as chromatic aberration and corrects for a non-existent problem, rendering these pinpoints white. john schroeder
Did Nikon say how much they charge for this service. My D70 has a hot pixel. It's on the extreme edge of the frame so I am able to crop it out.
andrew robertson
I have no experience with Nikon Capture. I use Adobe Camera RAW and it remaps bad pixels automatically.
