PS CS2 -> noise reduction

Recommended Posts

Is there any experience yet with the new improved noise reduction

embedded in CS2 ? How does it compare to say neat image? I think to

upgrade my CS and was just ready to upgrade neat image to have the

plug-in - but perhaps it became obsolete?

The CS2 Noise Reduction Filter does not come close to Noise Ninja, but it may work in a pinch.

I recently shot a wedding (not as THE photographer) at ISO 3200 and resorted to B&W to try and hide the noise. The bride was unhappy because she wanted color pictures so I gave the NoiseNinja demo a try and was amazed. But when I heard CS2 came with noise reduction I bought that instead. In comparing the results, NoiseNinja and its auto profiling leaves noise that looks a lot like film grain while CS2 leave noise that just looks like noise (even leaves some banding from the 20D).

But overall I am happy with the noise reduction in CS2 and will not be spending $80 on NoiseNinja anytime soon. If I was shooting a lot of ISO 1600 and 3200 images I would buy NoiseNinja or Neat Image.
