Anyone lucky: New Canon EF 85mm, 1.2L lens

The new Canon EF 85mm, 1.2L lens has been announced for April 2006.

None of my vendors can give me any information about its

availability. Does anybody here know about it? Where can I purchase

it? And why is Canon always so bad when it comes to producing and

selling products (I was never able to buy a 35mm L lens because it

was simply never available anywhere for example).

Onecall and BestPriceAudioVideo.com are reliable dealers. The latter has better price but accepts retun for store credit only. The Canon 85 f/1.2L II has been available at many stores for a week. If you have a spare $3000 they are yours for the taking.

 

Other than in first few weeks after a new item was released I have had no difficulty in obtaining current Canon lenses though these lenses are more specialist items.

Thanks for your replies. Sorry, I forgot to mention, I am in Germany (Frankfurt, Germany). And I couldn't find any German internet dealer and the pro stores in Frankfurt (who really have a lot of heavy gear) don't have the lenses and when I ask them to order it for me they say, Canon cannot tell a delivery date.

 

Maybe it is different at Canon, USA. But I know that 1 year ago B&H photo and video had big problems in delivering the 35mm lens. Actually I told them to e-mail me once they have it in stock and never got an e-mail (not even 1 year later).

 

Would you recommend delivery from USA to Germany? I have a bit fear about problems/return and the shipping and customs will be expensive also.

I myself have a low tolerance for risk. High dollar lenses that hold great promise can still

provide for variation in manufacturing quality. What recourse if you are dissatisfied given that

the lens arrives OK to begin with?

You can pre-order the 85 1,2 L II at Foto Huppert. It's not in stock yet, but you could check with Mr Huppert about availability date.
