Nikon F5 Viewfinder Display problem

I've a problem with my Nikon F5 Viewfinder Display recently which I

bought from ebay a year back.

All of a sudden the yellow/green display inside the viewfinder gets

blurred.

The display is sharp once I switch on the power but in a fraction of

second it strats bluring. I didn't change the diopter setting.

I've to look downwards instead of straight, inside the viewfinder to

get a clear and sharp view of the dislayed alphanumerics.

I've checked with different lenses but it's all the same.

If anybody faced similar problems please let me know.

Thanks in advance

SR

The viewfinder data display has nothing to do with which lens is used. The displayed characters are generated with LEDs, which cannot themselves change appearance. This leaves two possiblities - a problem with the eyepiece, or a problem with your eyes.

The eyepiece may be dirty. It's easy to remove and clean. While you're at it, see if it is damaged, or if there is anything loose or out of place in the prism optics. The standard eyepiece is neutral, so you are able to see the data display with the eyepiece removed (I've had to do that a couple of times when my eye cup and eyepiece came undone while walking.)

You don't say whether you wear glasses or contacts. If you don't have a rubber eyecup, I suggest you get one. It helps shut out extraneous light and keeps the eyepiece cleaner (and glasses from getting scratched).

The Nikon F5 uses LED(s) in the body and with the DP-30

viewfinder installed there is a back lit LCD. Is everything

blurry or just the green back lit LCD? Are the markings on the

focus screen crisp as they should be?

If everything is blurry try cleaning the DP-30s eyepiece

and then reset the diopter correction for your eyes. If only the

LCD is blurry perhaps something is wrong with your DP-30 prism. Ive

seen faded LCD(s), not in a Nikon as yet. Has the camera been

very cold or hot lately? The last question is a wild guess. Has

the camera been subject to shock? A fall, down a really rough

high clearance FWD trail, etc. Have you checked your camera

manual's trouble shooting guide? If you dont have one you

can down load one from Nikon UK, if you dont register from

the USA. You might be able to download a non-printing one from

Nikon USA if you live in the USA (very strange). If the trouble

shooting guide does not help try calling Nikon.
Anyway, you are probably using a Nikon F5 with the standard DP-30

viewfinder and it does have a green back lit LCD (black on green).
Good Luck! I hope the problem is simple.
