jsc1
I'm nobody! Who are you? Are you nobody, too? Then there's a pair of us ラ don't tell! They'd banish us, you know. How dreary to be somebody! How public, like a frog To tell your name the livelong day To an admiring bog!
mpo
Hi Ramy, I think no one can "command history" although many people would like to. The company you refer to is ITT, that part of the history, the intervention of foreign forces to overthrow president Allende, is a demonstrated truth. That many people died, estimated in 3.000 by an investigation ("Informe Rettig") made after Pinochet was defeated in an electionary process, is also a demonstrated truth. The stadium you mention, the "Estadio Nacional", was used as a prision during the first weeks after the coup and many people was executed there without a proper trial. But there was no such thing as "mass killing" and most people imprisioned there was released unharmed (although, the psychological trauma they suffer to this day is completely real). The part of the history that is usually forgotten, converting those stories in fiction, is that no one was killed (or executed, if you prefer) just by his ideas, they were actively opposing the new regime in armed combats on the streets. As you wisely noted, "Missing" tells a story surrounded by truth, but is still a story, not history. I said "particles of truth" thinking that the human story that presents is far more important than the political surroundings. By the way, I always thought that been chilean, qualifies me to talk about Chile's history, not the opposite as you seem to suggest. That's why I posted, but now we are way OT, so this is my last post about this subject.

eliot_rosen1
Lest we get too political (as some of you have already done above)Pinochet was small potatoes as far as murdering dictators go, the Communist dictators Stalin, Mao, Castro, and others have overseen the disappearance, murder, and "re-education" of far more of their nations' citizens than Pinochet. In fact compared to the "benefits" provided by these socialists, Pinochet would be considered a humatitarian. Just to put things in perspective. jtk
If an evil person wanted to weight a modern (20th/21st century) list on a "side" he could do it with various African countries, Spain, Germany, the former Soviet Union, various Baltic countries, Greece, the Middle East, South Asia etc etc etc. Some would add Northern Ireland and Mississippi. Right Vs Left is irrelevant. I think Carberry was posting games with Photoshop rather than "Leica" images. Just a guess. Or maybe it had to do with potato size. I hope this thread is vanished. fjords
Eliot, reading comprehension can be clouded by attitude. The problem originated with The president of the United States, Richard Nixon's attempt to covertly overthrow a duely elected government and destroy that countrys economy. Not with Pinochet. ENOUGH SAID.
kelly_flanigan1
But Watergates masterminds used a Minolta slr, and 20 exposures rolls, still in the paper film boxes.A real pro would have used 36 exp rolls, a nikon :) , and just carried the film cassettes

david_kelly13
Josiah S. Carberry is a case of identity theft anyway : the "real" JSC has been for many decades an imaginary Professor of Psychoceramics (Cracked Pots) at Brown University, who is always on leave but sends postcards from the far corners of the world. I would imagine that there are many Brown Alumni -I am one- who are not overjoyed to see our distinguished man's name turn up as somebody's web moniker. A sense of fair play compells me to reveal that those who have committed this foul deed in the past have tended to....vanish.
