Any word on 400/4.0 DO?

I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything about potential

release dates for the 400/4.0 DO. It seems like it has been a while

since the press release.

what you have and make the most of it.

I think we should expect a 300mm f2.8 before we get a 400mm f4. Not

that I can afford either one...

Canon announced the 400/4.0 DO last September so I think

it is more likely to get a 400/4.0 than a 300/2.8. Besides, they just

released a new 300/2.8 year before last! Is there anyone out there

who actually knows the answer to my question?

Canon said it would be out in the first 1/2 of 2001, so they have a

couple of months to go.

So far I haven't even heard of anyone seeing an image shot with one,

though a few people have looked through prototype lenses at trade

shows.

Personally I would not hold my breath waiting for this lens to appear.

Maybe it will show up on time, but I have my doubts.
