Nikon wireless CLS and Wein Digital slave flash triggers?

Has anyone used a Wein Digital Slave flash (such as the digital peanut) trigger with the Nikon CLS wireless system?

My intention is to use my SB-600 wireless as a key light, triggered

through CLS by the command-mode onboard flash, while using my 283 with

a wein digital penut to light the background or as a hair light etc.

What concerns me is that the CLS system uses what amounts to 4 flash

bursts, not 2 like normal I-TTL (preflashes of command flash, test

flash by wireless main, adjusted command flashes, main flash).

Has anyone attempted this? Does anyone have a wein digital they could

test with?
I hope I can get away with using a digital slave, as not having a

SC-17 connected to the camera would be very nice.
Other

suggestions on how to pull this off are welcome.

I don't have an SB-600 but the prefire on the SB-800 can be disabled using fully manual mode. That allows the use of ordinary peanut slaves and optical triggers on non-dedicated flashes. It also removes the advantages to using a sophisticated flash like the SB-800 or SB-600.

I've had bad experiences with Wein. I had two Wein digital hot shoe slaves. I had to order them (separately) and each arrived defective. The first wouldn't operate at all. The second was mis-assembled and I couldn't even mount a flash to it. The store ordered a third unit for me. After not arriving for over a month, I cancelled the order.

I was hoping to be able to not buy two slaves, and also avoid using the on-camera flash for the exposure by using CLS> In manual I'd have to have 2 slave triggers to have the SB-600 off camera wireless, and also the on-camera flash (even at 1/16th) would factor into the exposure. The SB-600/800 doesn't have a built-in optical trigger mode that I'm not aware of does it?
