tedms gallery
If so, how is the focusing wide open? Is all good by 2.8? Thanks.
al_kaplan1
I use the 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit on my CL and never had a focussing problem at f/2.8. I've never tried shooting my 85/2 Nikkor on it. The lens is quite heavy and the combination with the CL feels very unbalanced and awkward.
Alex_Es
Yes, long ago. Can"t complain.
christopher_a._junker1
Done it with the Nikkor f2. Weight is an issue, but it is possible to focus wide open. Virtually no depth of field close up, and you'll need one hand just to hold up the heavy lens unless you have one of the later aluminum versions. Take a look at a depth of field chart and you'll see the focusing problem wide open. With a hood, the viewfinder may be partially blocked. Great lens at 2.8-11. I prefer the f 3.5 Canon 100 on the CL for the balance reason Al mentioned.
tedms gallery
Thanks all, very good info. On the DOF, I understand this, at greater distances that I would use (10m +) the DOF increases, as does @ infinity ... ;)
john_shriver
The CL's 90mm lens was f/4 because the short base rangefinder really can't accurately focus anything faster at that focal length. You're going to be getting "luck" focusing at f/2.8 and wider. A CLE, maybe just barely it could do it. As noted, the Canon 85 is horribly front-heavy even on a Canon IV.
