steve_singleton3
Entering the brave new world of digital capture with a D200, I need a primer onimage processing software. There seem to be three levels: entry level programslike Nikon View--which I gather many prefer to Picture Project for gettingimages off the memory card and into the PC; then intermediate software likeNikon Capture or Capture One to provide more sophisticated controls and batchprocessing options; and finally CS2 for getting the most from each image.Assuming the goal is to provide the best quality digital files to commercialclients for publication, what software tools and information sources would bestset me on that path? joseph_smith3
It depends on what you want to do with your iamges and a lot of other factors. I am assuming you shoot in NEF or RAW. I agree that Nikon View and Nikon Capture are to be included in your first steps. I use Downloader Pro to download and rename my images from flash cards taken on my D 200 before I view them in Nikon View and process them in Nikon Capture. ShunCheung
<I>Assuming the goal is to provide the best quality digital files to commercial clients for publication</I> <P> If that is indeed your goal and you are new to digital, I suggest getting some serious training in digital work flow/PhotoShop. Perhaps the following web site will give you some ideas: http://www.photoshopuser.com
rocky_bennett
Another suggestion would be to post this question in the "digital darkroom" section.
arnabdas
<I>"Image processing/workflow for digital virgin"</I> - In addition to all the accessories mentioned above, I suggest you consider enlisting the help of an expert for the first time. :)
elliot1
I use DXO (www.dxo.com) to batch process my images for optimum color, contrast and sharpness and then crop and print with Nikon View (free from Nikon). I have Photoshop but find I rarely have to use it unless I need to touch up my pictures. Many people use it exclusively as they like to process each image one-by-one. As I process a lot of pictures and don't have time to 'tweak' each one, I find DXO a must. They have a free demo if you want to test it out. It is my understanding that are several other good batch image processing programs. You might want to 'google' search for them.
johnmarkpainter
CS2...no real reason to look elsewhere. You need to learn about Sharpening and Color Management. Everything else you can pick up along the way. jmp
