video cam hot shoe v still cam hot shoe

Does a video cam hot shoe have the same physical dimensions and characteristics

as a still camera hot shoe? I am thinking of purchasing an on camera video

light for my Panasonic digital still camera to use when recording video. I

understand that it would only function as cold shoe but would it even fit is my

question?

My external RCA VDC88 video light mounts perfectly on my DSLR's hot-shoe. Not that there's a good use for it there (save focus-assist) but the point is I tried it and it works. I believe most modern shoe type accessories are of a standard size.
