andy_cha
Has anybody ever sent in your camera to get serviced? particulary, to get the CCD cleaned? how much does it cost? and approximately how long does it take? Thanks so much

trevytrev
I would also suggest cleaning the sensor yourself. I purchased a cleaning kit from Copperhill images and it has worked great. There are a few other companies that you can purchase from as well. Sending in the camera to be cleaned can take a while and there are no guarantees that it will be any cleaner. Also I have cleaned the sensor and later that day had to clean it again, so it could get dirt on it the day you get the camera back and your back at square one again. I was very apprehensive at first but took someones advice on this site and realized that cleaning your sensor is a fact of life with digital cameras. Just do lot of research and take your time. Best wishes!

pennyjack1
This is a pricey solution but I will say, I have used it a bunch of times with GREAT results. http://www.2filter.com/prices/products/Sensor_Swabs.html The instructions are good and the process is simple. Dust is a fact of life and I couldn't imagine sending my camera back to canon for every piece of dust my sensor encounters. The down time would be torture! Good luck! KenPapai
What about the CMOS? Canon hasn't made a CCD-based DSLR sensor in many years. Anyway, this is an overly common question.
wolver
Andy, pay no attention to the really helpful "Forum Police".

Here is a pretty good tutorial on cleaning the "sensor".
