www.wesleyalmond.com
I have a few old Tlrs like a Yashica A and beaten up Rolleicord. The focusing screens in these cameras are DIM. I'm wondering what alternatives there are to buyer over priced Maxwell screens etc. Someone should have some DIY info on this subject especially Large format camera users. Maybe I can cut Plexiglass and lightly buff down one side? Any ideas??
ben_hutcherson
Photo.net member Rick Oleson sells a generic bright screen with a split image rangefinder for $30. This sounds exactly like what you're looking for. http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-175.html

bob_camarena
There are some instructions online on some of the build-your-own view camera sites that involve grinding two pieces of glass together with an abrasive compound between them. A little searching should find one of the sites. I used an inexpensive piece of acrylic from Tap Plastics that has a groundglass-type finish to check the focus on my 2.25" x 3.25" press camera. It only cost me $0.50 and worked OK for my purposes. It's not as fine as real ground glass and I don't know how thin you can get it, mine was 1/8" thick. ivan_dzo
Good question. First clean the mirror http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00ETeO See attached link about my experience. Next, buy a rb67 screen (10quid on ebay) and cut it to size. Took me 20 minutes work and it's now brilliantly bright with a split screen to aid focus. Easy to do and cheap. Andrew in Austin
Stick with a fresnel screen. For my Minolta Autocord, I also cut down a NOS focusing screen from a Mamiya RB67 - It's ridiculously cheap, bright to the corners and I gained a center focusing prim. redleica1 over on eBay sells a $20 ready made screen for your Rolleicord.
