Adobe CS / Bridge: Problems with RAW

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I have problems with opening RAW Files after installing Adobe CreativSuite.

Since this time I use Adobe Bridge for browsing and managing my Files.

I use a Canon EOS 350D and have installed the Canon software aswell like

Camerawindow to extract the files from the Camera and 2 Photoeditors which are

similar to Adobe Bridge

My Problem:

Before installing Adobe CS, I could open RAW Files that I've shot in Black and

White Modus of the Camera actually like I shot - in Black and White! Now I've

got the problem, that Photoshop aswell as Adobe Bridge converts the files

automaticaly to colour format when opening and viewing them. I can't get the

actual black and white file which I've shot - what's pretty bad for me beause

I actually like the Black and White Modus of the camera and it's nice and

contrasty tones which I'll get immediately without playing around in Photoshop.

The strange thing is, that when I use one of my Canon programs and open the

RAW Files they are still as they've been shot: black and white. So it seems to

be a problem of the adobe software only.

Oh and by the way: I used Photoshop before to open RAW files shot in Black and

White and everything worked fine. I believe it was after installing Adobe CS,

that the B/W changes to colour automaticaly

any suggestions? Do you know of a possibility to change this issue at the

options or something? I couldn't find anything so far

I would be very happy about your reply and advices.

thanks in advance

cheers, marcel

Hello yes I have a 20D and what is happening it is B/W in the camera due to the cameras proccing the image to make it B/W and can make a JPEG in B/W....It is color in PS due to it is a raw file that is not altered in any way by the camera. What I do is shoot both a raw file and a large JPEG at the same time there is a setting for that...each shot is stored both ways on your CF card. That way in PS Bridge you will have a B/W JPEG and a raw color file to veiw and use.....

Hope this helps...e-mail me if you have any questions

The image below was created that way

The problem actually is wth Canon: they are hiding the camera settings in an undocumetned

data fork that Adobe doesn't know exists. virtually every DSLR maker does this to one degree

or another.

My take on it is that it ifar better to do the B&W convrsions either in ACR or in PsCS2 than

lettign the camera manufacturer tell you how the iamges should look. But that is just me.
