andrew_hull
I just scanned my first color negative (I have been scanning B&W) and the file is three times larger than the equivalent in B&W (all the same settings). Is this normal? Why is this if it is normal?

andrew_hull
Kevin: Sorry I was in the darkroom this morning and couldn't respond earlier, I wasn't reacting to your comment, I was laughing at myself because once you said it, it was obvious, I am just so new at this, and it was my first color scan, I had to laugh at myself. Consider the tone of the comment at me, and not you. Apologies if it came across as a comment towards you. I appreciate your quick response...and thanks. kelly_flanigan1
With real old color scanners; the scanner would scan with 5 or 6 bits of info per RGB; and it would become a 8bit RGB when saved. Here the file would be 3 times as big as a 8 bit grey scale image; without really 3 times the info. One of our 11x17 400 dpi scanners is a 6 bit device; and cost a couple of grand.
