Cracked Plastic lens mount- Replacement?

Was travelling light with the new baby and the bag with my 20D and EF-

s 18-55 fell. Looked fine, focused OK, but had no aperture reading

and an error code when I took a pic. My 50/1.4 still works.

Looked at the lens and the plastic part on the mount with the four

screws is cracked near the screw head closest to the AF/MF switch.

Can I:

Take off the screws and super glue and clamp the piece together, and

replace it?

Get a replacement part?

Anybody have a EFS 18-55 with a broken front element willing to part

with the piece I need?

I won't buy another, don't have the money for a 17-40 or off brand

equivalent, so its fix or wait 6 months.

Guess I should be happy the $100 lens took it instead of the camera!

Surpised it broke, it only fell about two feet (albeit to concrete).

I actually didn't think anythig of it until the lens didn't work.

Thanks,

Mark

Call Canon. They sell replacement parts directly to customers. As long as they can figure out exactly what you want (i.e. the part number), they'll sell you just about anything from a battery compartment door to a USM motor.

Thought I'd close the loop on this one. Called Canon service from website number and although I had to go thru about 4 people before getting to the parts person, they all picked up the phone on the first ring, were pleasant and passed me closer to where I needed to be - No voice mail at all!

The parts person covered camera, copiers, everything but we eventually worked it out what the lens mount was. About $5 plus a couple for shipping. 4 screws, 2 set screws and I had a new mount.

Unfortunately, still get "00" for Ap reading and ERR 1 after taking a shot. Must have broken something else besides the lens mount.
