Difference between NPS/NPC 160?

Recommended Posts

Just curious. I've mostly been shooting with Reala. How do these two

films compare to Reala 100? I'll be shooting in a park with plenty

of natural light, but it will be closer to the end of the day. Near

5:00. I don't want too much red or orange to be rendered in the skin

tones. Thanks.

Im not familiar with REALA.But Ive shot NPS for years. It is a low contrast portrait film, with a very neutral gray ,designed for skin tones.NPS,in my opinion is a great portrait and wedding film.

NPC ,on the other hand is much higher contrast, and isnt so good with skin tones. For outdoor scenics though, NPC is a great film.

According to Ctein's review of these films in the Jan/Feb 2001 issue

of Photo Techniques magazine, Reala is least grainy, NPC and NPS

about tied (behind the Portra 160s). NPS is lower in contrast than

Reala, NPC is higher. Reala is most saturated followed by NPC and

NPS. NPC has the best primary colors and grayscale neutrality,

although skin tones are best in NPS. Note: both NPS and NPC will be

updated this spring, so don't stock up too much.
