j_h
just bought a jupiter 8 lens with lens number 0252781, what is the year of production? i always thougt that the first two numbers indicate the year of production (lens is for a kiev 4 camera)
nicolas_douez
Might be 1952 (#781 made in February 1952). No other better idea or knowledge. Is it a vintage Jupiter-8 with a red cyrillic "T" or a more recent Jupiter-8M with the white Kiev logo ?
j_h
hi nicolas, thanks for your response; the lens has a white kiev logo
nicolas_douez
So it's a "modern" Jupiter-8M and not an older Jupiter-8. My idea of searching the year of production in the number 3rd and 4th digits was wrong then. I have a 1976 Jupiter-8M (original lens sold with the 1976 Kiev 4A-M body). I will look at the S/N. If it's close to yours, you could have an idea. I will post a picture of the lens barrel tomorrow.
mskovacs
Which logo is on the lens? The J8 was made by a few different factories over the years. The 0 may indicate that its some sort of prototype, though in the Moskva 5 a 0 in the lens serial number is normal. You might also wish to post on the beststuff.com Russian camera forums. j_h
my lens is identical to the lens on the photo but it doesn't have the little red number
mskovacs
Is the lens coated? (that's what the "pi" letter stands for in Russian, as red T for Zeiss) It can't be identical as that one in the photo isn't Contax/Kiev mount but you are saying that the front looks similar with the same logo? Does the aperture have click stops or not?
j_h
sorry for misunderstanding, the front is identical, (the lens has a kiev contax mount) the glass is coated and the lens doesn't have clickstops
nicolas_douez
Mine has a S/N that is 7530079. So : I "give my tongue to the cat", as we say here in France. Definitely don't know nor have any idea !
