year of production??

just bought a jupiter 8 lens with lens number 0252781, what is the

year of production? i always thougt that the first two numbers

indicate the year of production (lens is for a kiev 4 camera)

So it's a "modern" Jupiter-8M and not an older Jupiter-8.

 

My idea of searching the year of production in the number 3rd and 4th digits was wrong then.

 

I have a 1976 Jupiter-8M (original lens sold with the 1976 Kiev 4A-M body). I will look at the S/N. If it's close to yours, you could have an idea. I will post a picture of the lens barrel tomorrow.

Which logo is on the lens? The J8 was made by a few different factories over the years. The 0 may indicate that its some sort of prototype, though in the Moskva 5 a 0 in the lens serial number is normal. You might also wish to post on the beststuff.com Russian camera forums.

Is the lens coated? (that's what the "pi" letter stands for in Russian, as red T for Zeiss)

 

It can't be identical as that one in the photo isn't Contax/Kiev mount but you are saying that the front looks similar with the same logo? Does the aperture have click stops or not?
