terry_rory

My youngest daughter (12 years old) was engrossed talking to this 81 year old D-Day Naval veteran last year at the D-Day 60 commemoration in Portsmouth. (He married the day before embarkation in June 1944 and never saw his new wife for the next 2 years!)

jtk
John, those are among the only honest photos I've seen of such memorials. The more usual thing is to degenerate into martial displays or to emphasize fake emotions (it was good that you showed the officers merrily trotting down the steps) . I like the kid with the flag, especially his early AM blur...you did right, balancing his ignorance with the old man. The flame shot is very fine. michael s.
I like your photos, John -- a nice touch and a sense of humility. And Trevor, if your then-12-year-old was able to engage (and interested in engaging) with the older gentleman on subjects of interest to him, that speaks very well of her ... and her upbringing. albert knapp md
A gallant tribute to the lads of Gallipoli, Palestine and the Western Front from 195-18. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten by any freedom-loving member of this planet.
