erik_jones
in case you haven't seen it, here are the only two available 24 karat gold leica lenses. they're prototypes of the 125 such lenses purchased by the sultan of brunei. the debate may continue as to whether leica lenses are worth the money or are just status symbols. it is clear, however, that 24kt leica lenses are meant solely as tools. i understand the sultan uses the lenses on his voigtlander. http://www.kbcamera.com/leicashop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=73_1_79&products_id=
frank granovski
I would prefer titanium over 24K gold. Some Saudi has a titanium M7 with titanium lenses. But then I'm not sure I'd want a M7. I'm still waiting where that shop is that has the Hexar RF body for $600 USD, and I'm still keeping an eye open for a CLE.
vuk_vuksanovic
ah yes, the legendary sultan of brunei who is famous for his unbotrusive street photography with gold lenses! vuk.
h.d._shin
Maybe the good sultain traded one in for a squadron of F22s.
david dutchison
I'm still getting my head around the fact that he bought 125 of them.
frank granovski
He bought 125 of them?? Then why is Leica in financial trouble?? Surely Leica makes good money.
frederick_muller
What would he want 125 of them for? Okay ... practically, Gold is corrosion-proof. I'm sure that's why he wants gold lenses. Right.
frederick_muller
Now, the real question is ... do these gold lenses look good on a titanium body? Or a Chrome body. Probably best on a black enamel body. Yes, they would be sweet on a black paint MP, not an M7.
erik_jones
i'm sure they would look amazing on a green or red lizard covered leica a la carte. as for their use, i'm guessing there's a wedding in the family. the sultan doesn't put out disposables for the guests to take pictures of their posteriors - only gold may grace their royal behinds.
