johnmarkpainter
After the thread the other day RE: The Canon 50 1.2, I shot a few frames Wide open as an unofficial test. Here is the Full Frame Shot. Ilford HP5 @ 400 developed in Rodinal 1+50 (hence the Grain). This was Handheld 1.2 @ 60th from about 5 feet

johnmarkpainter
Here is the crop. I scanned the Film at 2400 dpi on an Epson 4870 (which actually resolves closer to 1800 DPI from what I have read).

johnmarkpainter
At any rate, I bought this lens for two reasons... To use in occasions where I REALLY need the extra Speed rather than shooting My Summicron @ 1/8th. And also as an alternative "effect" Lens to create extreme Out of Focus backgrounds. It does both of those quite well. jmp
johnmarkpainter
Another dorky shot. Minimum Focus distance 1.2 @ 1/500 (handheld again)

johnmarkpainter
Here is the Crop. You can see the narrow depth of field as the Bottle Curves (I focussed on the Large type).

kelly_flanigan1
John; mine was done with a Canon FS2710 2720 dpi film scanner; Kodacolor 100; a tripod; and is the best of five shots; where focus was varied abit on four; to eliminate any rangefinder coupling/alignment issues. My shot is magnifed somewhat more that yours. Lenses do vary in sharpness; mine at best focus has some spherical abberation that dominates somewhat; when wide open and on axis. I consider MY 1.2 to be sharp at F2.8; decent at F2; and "useable" at F1.2. Since there is no focus error; or centering error; my sample; is not defective; just the way it is for a 1/2 century old lens. Hopefully others will post shots at F1.2 also; regards Kelly

kelly_flanigan1
Here is the Canon LTM F1.2 @ F2.8 on a Zorki 3C; with Superia 800; about maybe 1/125sec.

kelly_flanigan1
1950's Canon LTM F1.2 @F1.2 @ 1/25 second; TMAX; (YUK!) with a Zorki3C. this is about say 80 percent of the full frame.

diego_k.
I had one that I got from Patrick over here, I found it to be softish until 4, at 1.2 barely usable. And found quite a bit of barrel distortion when close focusing, when I get home in a few days Ill try to post a pic where it shows.
jason
FWIW i owned such a lens. Seeing your results only prove again, to, why i sold the lens! It is too soft for the slight speed difference. i did a further test which was way more unsettling. The lens was placed on some unexposed photo-film,100 speedBW.Itwas left in a light tight box for 2+ weeks. I then developed the film sheet. It had a circle that matched the lens shape.I guess mine was radioactive! I am sure in day to day usage it was safe but it helped make my decision. My lens was permanently fitted to the adapter after being collimated at a local repairman. kelly_flanigan1
There are at least two different "looking" types of lens barrels/mounts for this lens. Mine is not radioactive. My aero Ektars will make a gieger counter squauk; the F1.2 Canon of mine will not fog film or register on a gieger counter. Here I have experiemented with filming with this lens too. I have a Leitz LTM to C mount adapter. Here there is no rangefinder coupling; you just focus on the groundglass. John might have a better sample than mine. Lenses due vary in performance; from serial number to serial number. I use mine mostly on my Zorki 3C; in riskier clubs and events; during kids food fights; :) etc; instead of the Noct and M3.
