bill_harris1
I have two Nikon D type lenses ,24/120 and 28/200 that I use with my D100. They are somewhat vintage, but they make very sharp 8X12 pictures. My needs are very basic but, am I really missing anything by not upgrading to newer lenses of this size? Your opinons appreciated. Iam a Shriner most of my time has been spent doing photography for them the last nine years of children, parades and other events. I am 82 years old, somewhat handicapped, but I am very inquistiive and young at heart and when able doing travelouges of the Southwestern part of the country in Texas,New Mexico,Arizona and the West coast from Vancouver to SanDiego. For what it is worth, you are really missing something if have not been to such places as Monument Valley...You can really get wild there with you camera..Get oudoors and get with it while you can..Be flexible with you photography. melvin_bramley
If they work for you then why change? "If" I were you I would consider a true wide angle for the scenics you must see in your travels.I find a film equivilant 28mm indispensible.BTW I have not been to Monument Valley but live on Vancouver Island B.C Canada & the photographic apportunties are amazing. michaelging
Bill, I don't think you are missing out with the lenses you have.As long as you like the results that it what's important. I agree with you about Monument Valley, I bet its beautiful right now with the snow. It can get pretty sloppy with all that red clay and rain, though. I would be interested to see some of your photos, you should post some.
dan_fromm1
D type lenses somewhat vintage? Wash your mind out with soap. You're not missing anything. Good luck, go on having fun, Dan
akira_sasaki1
I lived in Salt Lake City for 10 years when I was a kid, and I really loved the road trips around the Utah, Arizona, New Mexico area. I really wish I could go back someday and take my time to go through all the great places once again. Thanks for the reminder of what our priorities in life should be. Back to lenses, the two lenses that you mention seem to overlap in function. How about replacing the 24-120 with 12-24 or 18-70 such that you will have 2 lenses covering 12/18 thru 200? That would make for a nice all-around kit. Hope this helps.
vivek iyer
Bill, Your lenses are not vintage at all so as Dan points out ever subtley. I am less than half your age and you should see my lenses (most as old as I am). I used my grad student years (lot more time than money)in Victoria, BC to enjoy bits and pieces of the west coast (and some of Florida as well). Yes, fabulous places. If the clear cutting is contained, there will be some rain forest/wilderness left on Vancouver island, B.C. for little bit more time. Oregon, Washington and California are beyond recovery... I would second Akira's suggestion on particularly getting a 12-24 zoom.
