edgar_njari
Hello... recenty I purchased a new flatbed scanner and all the scans have some kind of strange blue scratches on one place. I have pintpointed the strange artefacts to be on the glass plate by testing with different scans, but I can't see them with my eye. here is an image of them. They turn yellow when I scan negatives and blue when I scan positives. I'm not sure what they are and why are they blue (perhapse a scratch that brakes all light exept blue?) and what caused them.. ...here is a picture example in the attachment Do you think I have a chance at getting a new scanner because of that (I still have waranty)? (it's pretty small, the picture is at 3200dpi) but it is anoying) So what do you think is it? p.s. I' am 100 sure it is not dirt because I have cleaned that spot on the glass and the atrefacts don't change at all, they are identical every time.

dai_hunter
?looks like? a fingerprint artefact and may be on the INSIDE surface of the glass.
edgar_njari
So I guess a simple wipeing from the inside would solve it? Well I have to take it to them anyway since I am not alowed to open it.
custom film holders for fl
There may also be something on the calibration strip area which is usually found on the underside of the shell for many scanners. Considering how poor technical support is at many scanner companies and the fact your scanner could get damaged during shipping, you my consider cleaning it yourself. Google for hints on how to clean a scanner without leaving dust. If you have an Epson 2450/3200/4870, there is a good tutorial availabe for downloading from the files section at the Epson 2450 and 3200 Users Group at Yahoo Groups.
Doug
Dougs MF Film Holder for batch scanning of 120/220 medium format film with flatbeds
