guitar_j
I want to make a remote test switch for my lights, is the sync on a monolight just a break in the circuit and when it is closed it fires the strobe? if so then could I make a remote trigger with a normally open momentary switch on a sync cord?
Thanks,
Josh
james_mullineaux
Yup, when the circuit is completed, the flash goes off.
bill c.
Josh-- No need to get really fancy, just stick the end of a key into the PC connection on the end of the cord. The metal on the tip of the key connects the circuit and sets off the flash. That's what I do when I need to make multiple pops on an architectural shoot and I can't get to the test button on the monobloc or the powerpack. -BC-
skipd
While shorting the PC cord tip works, you run the risk of burning the contact surfaces of the plug. Making up an adapter with a real switch would prevent that problem.
guitar_j
Thanks, I'd like to make something i can hold in one hand along with my flash meter, it would be kinda difficult to short the tip with a key while holding both the flash meter and the tip.
-Josh
skipd
Josh, there are flash meters that trigger the flash units via a PC connector all by themselves. I have a Sekonic L-358 that does this.
