david_h._hartman Posted April 11, 2005 Share Posted April 11, 2005 You should be able to access the memory card as a drive on your computer whether it is a MAC or PC. You need to give more details. Did your rescue program save the files? If so where? Did you try to save the files after the Lexar program found them? What kind of file did the Lexar program save them as if the rescue program saved them? Can you tell what the file extension is if you have a PC? If you are running Windows 2000 or XP you should set the computer so Windows shows the file extension. If nothing else this helps you avoid clicking on a Trojan Horse in your e-mail.

DO NOT use that memory card in your camera or write to it until your photo files are safely saved to your computers hard drive!

Ive used SanDisk RescuePRO 2.0.0.9 and it worked well. Im sure the Lexar program does too. Please give more details and Im sure someone will walk you through the process.

Dave Hartman. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Prof-K Posted April 11, 2005 Share Posted April 11, 2005 I'm not an expert on this...but have you tried manually changing the extensions (after you copy them to your harddrive), and then try it again? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
david_h._hartman Posted April 12, 2005 Share Posted April 12, 2005 Do you know if you were shooting *.JPG, *.NEF or Both? I they are on your hard drive and if you have a free program called IrfanView 3.95 along with the extra plugins you can just rename them to *.JPG and IrfanView will open it and warn you if it has the wrong extension. IrfanView will ask if you would like to correct the file extension. Im pretty sure it will not try to open a file with no extension.

OK, it looks like IrfanView will misidentify an *.NEF file as a *.TIF because there is an imbedded TIF thumbnail. In that case you can press the F6 KEY and enter an extension of NEF in the dialogue box provided. IrfanView will then reopen it as a Nikon NEF file. The way you can tell if IrfanView is misidentifying the file is the image opened will be very low resolution image with big block pixels.

Some cameras will save files as *.TIF files. It they are *.TIF then the image will open with good resolution. You can easily go through all the files in a folder by pressing <Enter> once you have one file open in IrfanView to use full screen mode. Then you can press <Page UP> or <Page Down> or right click and left click on your mouse, no need to point at anything in full screen mode, and the files will change like the remote on a slide projector.

Here is a link to Two Cows...

http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967.html

...look for License: Freeware and...

Also Available:
* Irfan View Plug-ins

Download both, install both. The install asks if you want to change the default program that opens various files. I assign *.JPG to IrfanView and leave everything else as is. Ive had no problems with this IrfanView. Ive used it for several years. It just keeps getting better and better.

Hope this makes sense, hope this helps,

Dave Hartman. johnw63 Posted April 12, 2005 Share Posted April 12, 2005 If you know how the files were saved on the memory card, jpg, raw, tiff...ect. All you should need to do is change the three letter extension to the proper type, like jpg. I often do this quickest in a DOS prompt by using the rename command: rename ( old name ) ( new name ) example: rename file.tif file.jpg Windows wants to forget those pesky file extensions and doesn't let you control them very well.
