les
$4500 for a Sigma 300-800 was too much, it is too late: now it costs $6200. Before, I was thinking seriously about it. Now, it is probably a pie in the sky....:(

PuppyDigs
I wonder if you can get a ROM update for it when a new EOS body is released new year. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
Greg M
If I had $4,500 to spend on a Sigma lens, I'd buy a 1D Mark 2....
les
As I said in the beginning: a pie in the sky...OTOH, my 1V should last me some time, so re-chipping most likely would not be on the cards.Still, why such a big price hike ?
ron c sunshine coast, qld,a
I've seen some other sigma lenses have big price hikes or drops too-i think it's possibly linked to the popularity (or otherwise) of the model.
The 120-300/2.8 price rose quite abit about the time it started being favourably compared with such lenses as the canon 300/2.8 L.
Meanwhile the 80-400 OS lens is available at a very good price, probably due to most potential buyers being very reluctant to take a risk on a lens that's said to be little better than the EF 100-400 IS
So maybe the 300-800 lens is a popular one? Still, a 38% price rise sure is a rude hit...
yakim_peled1
I think they are nuts. Do they want to sell fewer lenses but make more profit on each? Happy shooting, Yakim.
jim_larson1
Well. . .I bet 95% of people would never, ever, spend $4500. Of those fools who would spend $4500, I bet 75% would also spend $6200.
mark u
Images from one of the first of these lenses to get out into the wild suggest that it might be worth the money: http://www.pbase.com/liquidstone/sigma300800
