Advanced ballhead/tripod question.

I'm feeling your pain:) It's kinda hard to hit the hip for something of this nature as in your head you're thinking, "All I wanted was a decent ballhead solution." :)

 

Now I'm going through the grind of dealing with thoughts like "I don't like Gitzo twist locks because I prefer the snaplocks of Bogen/Manfrotto." and "Why can't they make the tripods six inches taller?"

 

At this point, I'm ignoring the pricing. I'm wanting a Bogen/Manfrotto snaplock design, in a carbon fiber that stands plus 5"2" (without column extention) w/stable column as I like the convenience of a column. I'm throwing caution to the wind and setting my sights on a G-1349 w/padded bag. I get heighth, a column and carbon fiber build but no snaplocks:( Three outta four ain't bad:)

 

Can anyone weigh in with comments about the G-1349 design; ease of use in setup?
