tom_jenner1
Hey All, I got a Quantaray QB-350a for bounce flashing. It works fine after a few hundered practice shots on my D70s. However, I measured the voltage on the two flash unit pins and came up with about 300 volts. Is this safe for the D70s or should I consider myself very, very lucky that I haven't damaged my camera? Thanks! -Tom
jonb
No, it's not, and yes, you should. From the D70 manual: "Negative voltages or voltages over 250 V applied to the accessory shoe could not only prevent normal operation, but damage the sync circuitry of the camera or flash." I assume the spec on the D70s is similar.
tom_jenner1
Thank you Jon! Read the manual! I'm going to modify the trigger circuitry in the flash to drop the voltage to a safe level. -Tom
tom_jenner1
I just put a 1.5 MOhm resistor across the trigger capacitor which limits the voltage that the camera sees to 90 volts and still fires the flash. -Tom
leonard_evens
Wein makes a device which reduces the voltage to a few volts. www.weinproducts.com/safesyncs.htm
