johnmarkpainter
I just visited a Museum in Nashville, TN today. When I asked what was showing, I was told "we usually have really cool exhibits, but right now we only have Winogrand" :) It was a good one. This is the "1964" show. Worth seeing if you are able to. jmp
mike dixon
Unfortunately, I'm on the other side of the world right now and can make it to the Winogrand exhibit. But out of curiosity, which museum? Frist? Cheekwood? Another . . .

thomas_t
Winogrand is also on exhibit at the FOAM in Amsterdam (I believe until the end of March?). Includes many photos of his "woman are beautiful" book. Also exhibited are some private collections and a few pieces from some of his contemporaries. Worth a visit if you are in the area. fred_obturateur
Is there a specific catalogue for these 2 exhibitions? (Nashville & 'Dam) Thanks
johnmarkpainter
Fred,The nashville exhibit is '1964'. The book is tough to get...only on eBay for $300 or so.And yes..."only winogrand" the bellemeade types walk in and see a whole room of snapshots..... gerald_widen
I have the "Winogrand 1964" book and would love to see the photos in person. Hopefully it will find its way to the NY area.
rolfe_tessem
Winogrand 1964 was reissued by Arena Editions in 2002. Are these also now out of print? I would think some copies of this edition would still be available new.
mike dixon
Matt, I'm currently residing in Pusan, Korea. Michael, thanks for the clarification. My folks are members at Cheekwood (and Frist)--need to tell my mom to take my ex-girlfriend (a pro photographer) to the exhibit.
fred_obturateur
Don't want to sound like a "Mr knows it all" but the "1964" book is an original, not a re-issue of a vintage one. GW travelled the U.S. (in a very close fashion to Frank did around 1957) but unlike Frank GW did not publish the results. "1964" is now scarce partly because Arena the publisher went out of business shortly after the release of the book. Still, I often saw it being offered on Ebay at extortionate prices (200, 250, 300$) but I rarely saw any bids for these auctions...Anyway it's a great book imho. GW worked in an era when most eyes were (save for the great John Szarkowski) turned to "genuinely artistic" photography (Eliot Porter, Jerry Uelsmann, Duane Michals, Jack Welpott, etc ad nauseum). Now they're forgotten and books are made with Winogrand's 40-y.o."snapshots". Life is ironic sometimes...
rolfe_tessem
Fred, I didn't realize that the 2002 edition of "1964" was the original one. I guess I'm fortunate to have gotten one hot off the presses at the time.
angel_mendoza1
Photoeye.com Has the book and it's only $235.00 . They say it usually ships in one business day.
