iPhoto v5 RAW support

I just upgrade to iPhoto v5 and was planning on trying to use this

for my image management on my Mac but I just ran into a problem.

 

I have about 500+ RAW images from a D30 camera that I also want to

manage and I do not want to convert them to anything other than RAW

because I use the Adobe Camera RAW plug-in when I want to work with

the image to adjust white balance etc.

 

Issue is that iPhoto v5 does not work with D30 raw files. It does a

good job with by 10D files but what do I do with my archive of D30

files?

 

Is there a way to convert a D30 RAW to D60 RAW. I can not believe

that there is much of a difference but I could be wrong.

I was going to suggest that you converted them into the adobe dng format(see link), but then I took a look at iphoto 5 and found that it was not supported!. Maybe apple will fix this with 5.1

Thanks Nick, I was not aware of DNG format. It appears that that would solve my problem and my guess is Apple is alot more likely to implement support for DNG than support for an old camera.

the intial list of RAW support in iPhoto 5 came as a surprise to many users. The supported

RAW formats seemed to be all over the board, with little rhyme or reason behind it.

Hopefully Apple will support some of the older cameras in an update (though it would be

nice to know which), as well as some current ones.

 

I think it does show that the manufacturers are having their own issues with the format.

We can only hope that DNG becomes a standard that the manufacturers will embrace. We

might see something more on this, this week or next at PMA.
