chris_c._yu
I was carrying the 905 SWC with a wide camera strap 59080 on my left shoulder, and handheld shooting after only 6 shots while turning the crank arm and I looked thru the viewfinder,it was out focused ,only by then that I realized the eyepiece/eyecup assembly was gone without a trace and sound.I was taking photos of old temples within a very close area and was just a few minutes apart from the last shot.I was the only one alone in that area and there were no other people around in such an early hour in such an rural area here in Hong Kong.I searched and searched and even with the help of four policemen to join in the search. The result-the eyepiece/eyecup assembly was gone for good in broad daylight.I have no idea how the eyepiece was attached to the viewfinder body, but judging from the screw thread on the viewfinder,it was just a few turns and no way to keep it tight. If not it won't be loosen so easily. Now I got a very unique,ill-fated and expensive plastic viewfinder and going nowhere.Oh,what a bad luck for me and what an expensive replacement part and service cost...Any forum members got such an ordeal ? Or any ordeals ,misfotunes with their Hassy ? Chris Yu

nicolas_hillier
I believe Voigtlander now makes a finder for the SWC, check the Japanese website for Cosina. Don't know about price and build, as I've never handled one. good luck

chris_c._yu
Thank you to both Grady and Nicolas.By the way,Grady can you tell me is the eyepiece and eyecup assembly in one piece and how much is it cost in your local currency. Can I just order the replacement thru Shriro and screw right in the viewfinder by myself or do I need a Hasselblad service technician to do the job. paul_chan4
Chris, if Shriro HK can get you the eyepeice assembly as a spare part item you should be able to attach it simply by screwing tightly into your viewfinder. Note that the eyepiece contains a small circular piece of glass without which the viewfinder is rendered practically useless for its normal function. You may also be interested in the Voigtlander low angle finder which is available in limited quantity from Stephen Gandy (refer ebay item #3873841738). thomas_t
Chris, this is an admittedly slightly different answer than what you were looking for, but I actually replaced the viewfinder that came with my 903 with the Voigtlander 21mm viewfinder that typically goes with their 21mm leica mount lens. The Voigtlander is much smaller, lighter, and has incredibly clear viewfinder. It has surprisingly close coverage, and has a second line inside the rectangle that you can approximate for the square of the 903/swc versus the rectangle of the 21mm (35mm format) lens. If you can handle one in person, you can see if it fits your needs. regards
stephen_w.
Huh? Using the close, inner frame would be "more" rectangular than at the infinity frame. One would have to imagine the vertical composition, as there is little area outside the framelines. And, since the CV finder sits lower in the shoe, you'll see more of the camera than the original finder, already too much obstruction. I see no utility to Gandy's $400 finder, as my hair and/or bill of my cap would get in the way. Get the original eyepiece from Dave Odess at Hassy and use a bit of loctite, as there is no reason to remove the piece to use something else. greg_smith4
The eyecup for my prism seems to be just a rubbercup that just pushes onto the finder, maybe yours is different. Here in the US it was $20 from adorama.com. If it's not available where you are, maybe we can use paypal and I could send you one.
stephen_w.
Grady, I believe Chris is using the plastic found on newer SWC's, we're using the metal ones.
chris_c._yu
It's the 52036 viewfinder, and it is a plastic housing .I have taken a few photos of my ill-fated housing, but have no way to upload to this forum for other members to review. You can view the viewfinder at the Hasselblad web site http://www.hasselblad.se,just click to 905 SWC.As mentioned earlier,I have no idea what the eyepiece/eyecup assembly consists of,definitely there is one eyecup and at less one double convex glass.Paul, you are right,my ill-fated viewfinder is practically useless at this moment.I have to seek help from Shriro HK to level out my viewfinder ordeal, early tomorrow morning(14-02-05).Meanwhile,I have filed a compliant to Hasselblad for such a poor design. For a new replacement 52036 viewfinder will cost at less HK$ 5,000.00(US $1= HK$ 7.80).By the way,the previous metal viewfinder that came with the SWC,SWC/M and 903 SWC were much better built. It contains a rubber eyecup with a small circular rim holding a small piece of glass that screw directly into the viewfinder housing. Although the earlier version for the SWC and SWC/M series are more robustly constructed they do not have an integral bubble-level in the top housing unlike this 52036 product item. chris_henry1
Zeiss' Hensoldt subsidiary makes the viewfinder. I never had a problem with the eyecap, but the bubble level on my viewfinder fouled--something inside was contaminating the inside surface and causing it to stain and darken. Hasselblad USA repaired the defect.
chris_c._yu
This morning I went to Shriro Hong Kong Ltd,it seems that Mr.Ting (the Hasselblad service expert) is waiting for me to show up.He told me that he got a spare eyepiece/eyecup assembly from the previous service order and that Mr.Kwan, the manager of the camera department had instructed him to replace the eyepiece/eyecup assy on my viewfinder for free (with no question being asked, although I did file in a complaint thru email to Mr.Kwan and Hasselblad during the Lunar New Year holiday last week). What a surprise!I got my viewfinder to be kept intact once again.I must praise for the good customer service that Shriro Hong Kong Ltd is practising-they care for their customers .
