david choo
Hi everyone. :) Just purchased an oldie Minolta Hi-Matic 9 to fool around with. Does this camera work without a battery? I cock it and fire it, and the shutter only seems to trip some of the time. Did I get a broken camera? :(
jim_gifford
You can read about the Minolta 9 at... http://www.sds.com/mug/ ... and find out about which Hi-Matics have any option for battery-free use. But you'll want to put a battery in it anyway. Be well,
chris_accetta
The Hi-Matic 9 should be fully useable without a battery in manual mode. If the camera has been stored for a long time your shutter may have become hesitant from disuse. Try exercising it a bit, even at lower speeds. Maybe some old dust or grit is gumming up the works. The Hi-Matics are fine cameras. I have a 7 that I use all the time. Takes great low-light pictures.
bacsa
Mine works without problems in full manual, no batteries. Be sure to put it in full manual.

david choo
Oh boo,i think I got a bad one. Shutter only fires one in 4 times, and changing the shutter speed sounds bad... makes a winding noise, sort of like when you try and change shutter speeds on a cocked large format lens. :(
