unohuu
I removed the front element of the 5000, cleaned the iris and polished the glass with my lens cloth. the shutter still will not open. What next?
cenelsonfoto
Send it to Mark Hama. Should run about $65 for CLA (plus shipping).
mike_elek
Hate to say it, but the cleanliness (or opposite) of a lens won't do much for the shutter. It's always hard to say if it's a mechanical problem or simply gummed up. In most cases, it's gummed up and needs a routine cleaning, lubrication and adjustment (CLA). The camera probably will need to be serviced.
unohuu
Then that will be two cameras to Mark Hama. I am hoping I can get them (or one of them back) before I leave for Guatemala at the end of the month.
mike_elek
The general comment is that he does good work (former PNetter Jay wasn't pleased with his work), is sometimes slow in getting the camera back to the customer and rarely ever replies to e-mails that start "Is my camera finished?" The poor guy probably has about 50 cameras to be serviced at any one time.
