tomasz_zakrzewski
I have an Epson 1290 at home currently. I'm going to buy it from my friend, it is in very good condition (very clean, not much used). Having tested it for several days I noticed that the printer emits a strange high pitch sound while printing at the beginning and at the end of page. This sound comes from the left side of the printer when you look at it from the front. And ideas on what would cause this? I'm not going to bother as long as it's not a sign of some part going to break.
seanb
I get a high pitched "ping" noise from my 1290s at the end of every time the print head finishes crossing the page; so the noise the printer makes is buzz (as the head cross the page) - ping - buzz - ping... it's quite a noisy printer. Don't know if that matches your symptoms, and short of recording it and sending you an mp3 I can't really describe it any better. All I can say is that the printer itself has been working fine for years, and has always been noisy.
andreas_weber
If it's an constant "whine" for several seconds, changing pitch a few times it's perfectly normal for Epson printers. My 1270 did it and my 2100 does it. (By the way, the sound I think of is so faint and high that I doubt most people would even notice it.)
