bellavance
The Canon EW-83E Lens Hood on my 10-22/3.5-4.5 lens is very loose. Is there a way to tighten it without damaging anything? Thanks Pierre
scott_ferris
Hi Pierre, The 16-35 uses the same hood (I have that lens not the 10-22). Sounds like a stupid thing but are you lining it up right? It only takes a small turn to mount and tighten but if you don't line it up right it will be floppy or very loose. The part (2x) that makes it tight is on the hood, if you look from the furry side with the hood unmounted there are two knobbly bits 180 degrees apart, if you jam something under the bottom of those it will push them further out and that will lock the hood down tighter. But this only normally happens on very well worn gear, yours should be fine. Take care, Scott.
bellavance
Scott, The EW-83E hood came with my 17-40/4L and I didn't use it anymore after replacing it with the narrower EW-83DII. Since the EW-83E is the recommended hood for the 10-22/3.5-4.5, I've put it on this new lens. Maybe the 17-40/4L is a little bigger than the 10-22/3.5-4.5 and has caused this loosening effect. I'll try putting something under the bumps. Thanks Pierre
wolfram_strohschein
I got for my 10-22 the EW-83II which is the same bad thing than Your EW-83E. I hate this thing, it does not fit to my quality requests.
fp_anderson
Try 'swelling' the plastic hood where it couples with the lens. Use a match flame for instance - just a little at a time. F.P. Anderson Berkeley CA
