svein_erik1
I've bought a Canon 9900F flatbed for doing some scanning of old b&w 6x6 negs. When I tried scanning some Kodak Portra 160NC film I ended up getting some weird color shifts (magnenta). I've never had any problems with the resolution of my b&w scans and have been very happy with them. I didnt try any more color neg scans because I concluded that the scanner just wasnt up to standard for such work after my early quick tests. Now about a week ago I downloaded the demo version of the Silverscan software, and by chance tried it on some color negs. The results blew me away. Compared to the Canon software I suddenly got perfect colours and beautiful looking scans. Now since I do very little scanning buying the silverscan software is a little over the top. Should I not be able to get the same quality from the Canon software?? I just cant find any colour adjustment settings in the scanning software that I can play a little with... :( Anybody have any suggestions/experiences? svein_erik1
BTW the colours in the preview of the scan looks perfect. Its only when I do the final scan that the colours shift out horribly...
michael_beckmann
It works for me. I think you have to check Settings -> Quality -> "Calibrate at every scan" for the right exposure. Have you done that? Have you got the most recent software version from the Canon web page? Have you looked at the histogram under "Color"? That's pretty much everything you should ever have to tweak, though the results I am getting with standard settings are pretty good to begin with. The curves tool is also there. michael_beckmann
I just realize that you may have forgotten to assign the right profile to your scan data. You have to assign the "Canoscan 9900F Negative" profile in Photoshop, then convert to your working space. I scan from within Photoshop then perform these two steps. If you scan outside of Photoshop, ignore color management in the opening dialogue, then assign the Canon profile and convert to working space. svein_erik1
Thanks for your suggestions, Michael I've always had the "calibrate at each scan" check box on. But unchecking it and forcing a manual calibration improved the colours quite a bit. But still not quite as nice as on the Silverscan sw.
