rodrigo_pinto1
Hello. I'm a new member and appolosige if a similar question was already posted. I recently adquired a Leica IIIc on ebay. The price was cheap and camera works fine at lower speed's (from T to 1/100). Then from 1/200 to 1/1000 I can't take pictures because the "curtain release is tripping at the same time as the first curtain" problem. My question is were I can go our send the camera for repair and if it is expensive or not to repar this problem. I live in Portugal so I don?t know if exist this possibility. My second question is, if there is a possible to dismont a Hector 135 mm.f/4.5 to clean the lens, if it's easy and a guide to do it.I' sorry for my english. tom5
I can't tell you where to get a repair done in Portugal. Perhaps you could send the camera to the UK? But, the old screw mount cameras can be easily serviced by someone who knows what they are doing. In the USA, a clean, lube, and adjust might cost about $100 if done by John Maddox, a screwmount Leica expert. In my view this is well worth the cost. IIIc cameras are quite common and thus the low price. But I love my IIIc and once cleaned and lubricated, they can be wonderful cameras.
mskovacs
The Nemeng FAQ is a good place to start. John Maddox is a popular choice and specializes in screwmount cameras.
For lens repair, you'll need a spanner and tools that will set you back at least one or two CLA costs. Collimating the lens can be done cheaply but the pros have better, faster equipment. If you only ever plan to repair the one lens, its not worth it. (risk of damage aside and its a big risk if you don't know what you're doing) Many old lenses have extremely delicate internal coatings.
ben z
Leica have had a factory for many years in Vila Nova de Famalicao. Perhaps someone there could steer you to an individual or shop in Portugal who can do justice to servicing your camera. Worth a call.
