russell_brooks
China 2004 - I've posted for many years on this and the B&W forums. However, this is the first time I've really posted any photos. The presentation is a series of B&W photos of Beijing, Xian, Sanya, and Shanghai during Oct 2004. Shot with Leica M7, 50mm f3.5 screwmount Elmar, and Noctilux on Tri-X. This is not my best stuff but a few of the pictures are good. I hope to get up other photos on the web that have backlogged over the last 6 years...
russell_brooks
Oh yes, and before anyone asks, yes the batteries did run out once on the M7 and the shutter release button did jam a bit. In the future it'll be the M3 for the Noct at night and a IIIf with the Elmar for daytime.
chip l.
Great images. What a treat you had being able to visit there. Thanks for sharing. Chip
dennis_couvillion
Russell: Well done... Many of these shots have the classic look of Cartier-Bresson shots from the thirties and forties. But, aside from style, they capture a sense of humanity in a strange land. You can be proud of this work. Dennis

paul_neuthaler
Great Russell. If Leitz had stopped with M3 & M2, we'd still be ahead!
charles_mason
If Leitz had stopped with the M3 and M2, there'd be a lot fewer people with Leicas.
paulr
Nice work. I was just in Shanghai in November. Whats with the "adult" store next to one of my favorite hotels, the Peace Hotel? No one has ever been able to explain that one to me.
terry_m1
What were your development factors with the Tri-X, Russell (which developer, which dilution, which temperature, and for how long)? Terry
russell_brooks
Normally I always develop myself but I wanted to try Metro in London because they are open 24/7. I had them pull 1/2 stop in the XTOL machine and I exposed for 320. I print with a Focomat so I need the negs a bit softer than for a diffusion enlarger. I shot Delta 400 and developed in Emofin for a few years but wanted to go over to the new Tri-X when I heard about Ilford's troubles. Oh and scanning is painless with Silverfast and Negafix...
