Color temperature of Halogen

most halogens tend to come in around 36-3800k - pretty yellow compared to your strobe.

Is a bad idea? Not necessarily. You could put a 1/4 - full cto (daylight to tungsten

conversion) gel/filter over the 420ex to balance it better, but depending on the shot, it

may not be necessary.

 

All depends on what you want.
