jon_sak
I have a nikon 8700 and I was looking to use a 2x teleconveter to double the focal length. I have one that I currently use on my gl2 and it has a 58mm thread (just use a 55mm step up). I also have a nextphoto coolfix variable 62mm and the 55mm adapter. My question involves using the teleconvertor. When I use it for short distances (less than 10 feet) the picture is clear and in focus. When I try focusing on something more than 10 feet (10ft-50ft) The picures are soft and a little blurry (like a soft focus lens). I have tried a tripod and shutter speeds over 1/500. I think it is the lens but does anybody have any idea what is causing it? I have tried the menu setting for telephoto lens both on and off
mark u
I suspect that the answer is simply that the combination can't be focussed properly at longer focal lengths and focus distances - the teleconverter wasn't designed for complete compatibility with your Nikon. It might work at shorter focal lengths (i.e. wider zoom), but that's not worthwhile, obviously. You need a TC that is properly optically matched to work with your camera's lens. I'm not sure what a g12 is (?mistype for Canon G2), but I wouldn't mind betting that its longest focal length is way short of the Nikon's 71.2mm (note this is true focal length, not 35mm equivalent field of view). jon_sak
I have a canon GL2 DV video camera. I have lots of expensive lens convertors for it and I was just being cheap trying to use something I already have. I think your right about the focal length the convertor was designed for that make a lot of sense. I felt experimental because my anamorphic lens worked great on the 8700 and then the 2x lens didn't.
