riz
Hi, Someone has suggested me to go for 24-200 instead of 28-105. Presently I have F70 and I might buy D70S also. I want a lens used fairly on both bodies. What do you advise? Regards, Riz
richard_laepple
Do you mean the Tokina 24-200 or perhaps the Nikon 24-120?
ShunCheung
IMO, there is no one general-purpose or as some people call it, a "walk around" lens that can fit woth the F70 (35mm film) and D70s (DX format DSLR), precisely because they are of different formats. For the F70 film body, a 28-105 or 24-120 may work quite well, but even 24mm is not wide enough. For DSLRs, IMO you want something like a 18-70 or 18-200, but those are all DX lenses. Any full frame lens that start at 17 or 18mm is not long enough on the long end. My conclusion is that you'll need different lenses for different formats. photo5
I bought the 28-105 back in 2000 and loved it. It's sharp and contrasty all through the zoom range. I considered the 24-120 but heard it wasn't that great. Nikon has since replaced it with the VR edition, which I also heard wasn't that great. The 28-105 is a classic and worth the money. I bought it new from B&H for $325. Since sold as I shoot the DX format now. Dave
