al_kaplan1 Posted December 26, 2004 Share Posted December 26, 2004 I've purchased 2 new Leica M bodies in my life time, an M4 and the limited production M2-R a few years later. I guess that they hadn't invented plastic yet way back then. I don't remember any plastic "protectors" on the base plates. I always thought that was what the chrome plating was for. Nice hard chrome to protect the soft brass underneath. If you use the camera enough even the chrome will wear through. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
