bob_mcbob
I've been playing my Kiev 4M (rangefinder malfunctioning, very cheap), and I'm now trying to remove the top plate to get at the internals (following instructions on several web pages). However, in the only example I've seen, the dial is removed with a two-pronged tool I can't find anywhere. Is it possible to retrofit something to do this? I tried applying a bit of force with two pins, but they just popped out.
__stu_evans
Two small nails between two scraps of wood, hald together with a small c-clamp. Smooth any burrs on the tips to keep the scratching potential down.
bob_mcbob
Thanks Stu, I'll give that a try.
bob_mcbob
Well, I managed to get it off with a contraption made out of a piece of dowel and two pieces of piano wire, so that worked out okay. Now I'm totally stumped by the adjusting screw for the meter, which seems to be holding the plate on the camera.

mskovacs
I have no idea how the meter comes off since I don't own any metered models. I haven't seen a 4M or 4AM model. The 4A and Contax II don't require a spanner wrench as they don't have any pin faced screws. Try the Kiev Survival Site.
