Can someone please tell me the difference between Elan 7E and 7NE

They're 97% identical. The newer 7NE contains minor upgrades to the flash algorithms

(E-

TTL II vs E-TTL) and AF (slightly better low light AF). The newer version also has a backlit

LCD and a dark wrinkle gray finish (the 7E has satin black). I prefer the satin black.

I own both models and can say the improvements to AF and flash are inconsequential

for

both chromes and print film. On the downside the quality control of the newer 7NE falls

short of my 7N, e.g., the 7NE came with dust on focusing screen and out of alignment

popup flash. My Japan made 7E was impeccable while my Taiwan made 7NE is a level down

in

QC.

In short, they're about equal. Personally if I found a really good deal on a 7E, I'd buy it

over

a more expensive 7NE.

My reviews of both cameras:

Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see.

One other completely irrelevant difference is that if the back is open, in the Elan7NE it uses a fast shutter speed (something like 1/125) which doesn't depend on what you set, whereas with the 7 or 7E with the back open, you can set the shutter speed in Tv and it will keep the shutter open for that amount of time.
